Rules and Scoring

* There is no entry form or fee to participate. When you finish a series race, you are automatically entered.

* Every time you finish a series race you receive points. The sum of your highest four scores determines your score for the series.

* Your age group for the series will be your age on the last race you run in the series.

* There are 6 age group categories and two special awards.

Men and women 29 and under
Men and women 30 to 39
Men and women 40 to 49
Men and women 50 to 59
Men and women 60 and over

* Biggest Loser Award - To the ultramarathoner with the worst series experience.

* The Forrest Gump Award - For runners who have completed all the races under the respective time limits.

Scoring System: The scoring is based on the race distance, and on your time compared to the winning time. The winning time for the race is divided by your time and that percentage is multiplied by 31(miles) for the 50KM races, or by 50(miles) for the 50 Mile races. Points are calculated separately for the men's and women's races. Men use the men's winning time, and women use the women's winning time to calculate points.

* For Example: In 2007 Eric Barns ran 5:44:49 at the Chuckanut 50K race. The winner, Kyle Skaggs ran 4:10:13. Kyle Skaggs score for that race would be 31 points. Eric Barns score for that race would be 250 minutes (Kyles’s time) divided by 344 minutes (Eric’s time) = .727 times 31(the milage) = 22.5 points.

* Your score will be the sum of your race scores, up to a maximum of four races. You will be counted as a series participant and your score will make you eligible for awards if you complete at least two races in the series.

Prizes: We're working on prizes and will update this page as the series progresses.

Awards: Awards are given for the overall men's and women's winners, who will not be eligible for age group awards, and for first place in the age group categories. Awards will be presented after the finish of the Cle Elum 50K.

Help: The unwritten rule for this series is that all participants will give back to the sport either by volunteering to help out with an event, or by doing trail work. Ultras take alot of work to put on compared to other running events. There aren't too many sports where you will find the elite participants helping out just like everyone else. (such as Scott Jurek manning an aid station at White River) Follow their lead and lend a hand.

* The goal of the series is to encourage participation in ultramarathons in Washington and to have some friendly competition and reward perserverence. As this is the first year of the series there will probably be changes throughout the season to try to improve it. As you can see we have no official sponsors as of yet.
