Washington Ultra Series ResultsAfter a wonderful sunny day at the Capitol Forest 50 miler, we have a new Washington Ultra Series leader. Brian Morrison continues to lead the men with a Capitol Peak win, but after a strong finish at Chuckanut and an age group win at Capitol Peak (she was first to the peak at 21 miles!) Speedgoat team member Monica Ochs is the new womens leader. The next race in the series is Lake Youngs Ultra 50K, put on your racing flats for this one! 2. Oregon Trail Ultramarathon Series Results
This year's Peterson Ridge 60K was a wonderful day with temp's in the 70's and outstanding views of Central Oregon's peaks. Imagine needing ice at an aid station, it's usually snowing during this race! After two events, Rod Bien, co-owner of the brand new Fleet Feet of Bend leads the men, and Stephanie Forshaw and Laura Gould are tied for first for the women. Be sure to check out the Oregon Trail Series, many of us will make the trek next week for the McDonald Forest 50K. 3. Behind the ScenesOften times we sign up for a race, show up, run the race, enjoy the post race party, say thanks and head home. After helping with last week's Capitol Forest 50 miler, heres what John Pearch, RD extraordinaire, had to contend with to put on the event: January, found out that a major loop of the course was destroyed by a large slide - course change made, Battling snow every weekend to do trail work, found two major bridges wash out and many trees down. finally get the last trees cleared from the snowy ridge the weekend before the race. Two days before race, part of lower loop course in impassible - another course change made, DNR permit granter doesn't like creek crossing proposal- new bridge built, wrong sizes of race shirts arrive, first half sweeper has to cancel, reserved rental van to haul aid station supplies doesn't exist. But everyone showed up and was treated to a first class event. Little did they know... 4. Crazy Tips-Talk the Talk
When I fist started running ultras, half the time I didn't understand what runners were talking about. Asked for "trail money" at an aid station, I didn't know it meant toilet paper. So if
you if you suffer the same language barrier, check out our
Ultra Glossary. If you have more suggestions, contact us!
